Sad News at Stromboli Pizza – NYC

If you read EV Grieve or Gothamist, you may have heard the terribly sad news about Cesar, a 17-year-long employee at Stromboli Pizza in the East Village. Cesar, while biking home after his shift, got hit by a delivery truck on Smith and Schermerhorn in Brooklyn and died a few days later from internal injuries.

Stromboli has been my go-to pizza joint probably as long as Cesar worked there, and he was a cool guy. He always threw in a smile or joke with every order, and one late night, he even let me and my drunk friends use the employee restroom when we clearly weren’t in the right state of mind to be trusted.

Cesar was 34 years old and leaves behind a wife and three kids. The owner of the pizzeria will be accompanying his body back to Mexico. If you’d like to help with funeral costs, you may do so by giving to the Cesar Fund at Giveforward or by donating at Stromboli. A donation jar has been set up on the counter.

Stay safe people.
