  Is dim sum better in LA than in New York? I can’t say for sure since I only had dim sum once while in Los Angeles, but I can say dim sum at Empress Harbor in Monterey Park is very good. MORE »

  Dim Sum at Golden Unicorn – NYC

  I don’t do it enough, but I love dim sum on the weekends. Even if the dim sum offerings in New York aren’t too imaginative, it’s still a nice change of pace from the typical brunch. (I mean really, how many eggs can you eat every single weekend?) In Manhattan, as of now, 88 Palace is my favorite, but I’ve recently started liking Golden Unicorn. It’s one of the more well-known spots and for good reason. The food is good (albeit greasy), the restaurant is cleaner than other dim sum joints (if you’re into that kind of thing), and you don’t have to share a table (sharing is not caring). Usually I don’t mind sharing a table at Chinese restaurants, but some days, especially in the mornings, I don’t want to get up close and personal with my fellow New Yorkers.   Dim Sum at Victoria City Restaurant – Hong Kong

  When David first suggested a trip to East Asia, Hong Kong wasn’t part of the plans. That was completely my doing. Being a huge fan of Chinese food in New York, and hearing from my coworker how much more delicious it was in Hong Kong, I had to go. Of course, at the time, I didn’t realize it would extend the plane ride an additional five hours (fifteen hours and forty minutes total, one way!), but l’m glad to say it was definitely worth it. Thank god.

  Our first day in Hong Kong, dim sum was obviously in order, so with a little help from Chowhound, I picked Victoria City Seafood Restaurant and off we went with fingers crossed. We were in Hong Kong for only three days, and we didn’t want any duds. MORE »
