In case you haven’t noticed, Bionic Bites has been very East Village-centric the past few weeks. The reason: I’m sick of living in my cramped run-down LES apartment and have been spending a lot of time in the East Village apartment hunting. (I love the LES, but for the same price, I can get more square footage in the East Village.) Two Saturdays ago, after seeing a gorgeous but way too expensive apartment, David and I wandered into Royale looking for brunch. It was only after we were seated we noticed the place was more of a bar than a restaurant, and the menu was limited to burgers and sandwiches. No biggie, we ordered two burgers, onion rings, housemade chips, and a Bloody Mary for me. As long as a Bloody Mary’s involved, it’s brunch to me. MORE »
A lot happened in 2009. Some good, some bad, and some downright dreadful. The dreadful part was especially rough, but one thing I learned through it all is to appreciate your loved ones. So last weekend, I took my mom on a trip to Las Vegas, and one of our stops was In-N-Out. Because what better way to say I love you than with In-N-Out burgers and fries? MORE »

It didn’t start off well at Veselka. David and I asked to sit outside, and of course, as soon as we got our water, it started drizzling. We ran inside with our cups of water in hand, until someone kindly unfurled the canopy over the outside tables. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. We asked to place our order twice, and was told our waitress would arrive shortly, and then again, we waited. In a huff, David suddenly stood up and said he wanted to leave. I said, “Let’s wait, I’m sure she’s coming soon.” (BTW, why does everyone think I’m the hothead in the relationship?!) When she finally did, the older woman couldn’t be nicer, and David begrudgingly placed his order. Lucky for me, deliciousness ensued shortly afterward. MORE »
