Faicco’s Pork Store is closed on Mondays. How do I know this? Well, I went there today for lunch and was greeted with a closed sign. Hello Monday! I didn’t have much time to go elsewhere, so I went two stores down to The Lobster Place for a Lobster Roll ($16.95), lobster salad with celery, mayonnaise, lemon-pepper seasoning, and scallions on a toasted split-top bun. Coleslaw and potato chips come on the side. MORE »
I realized I’ve been eating Chinese food every day this week for lunch so I decided I needed a break and went to K-Town for some Korean food. Somehow things didn’t work exactly as planned since I ended up eating Korean-Chinese at Jin Jja Roo. Oh well, sometimes you have to listen to your body when it’s craving something. MORE »
David should get an award for waking up at seven in the morning on a Saturday to go with me to a HomeGoods shopping event, and then going for tea and scones at Alice’s Tea Cup. Not all men are that secure in their manhood. In any case, if you find yourself at Alice’s Tea Cup in the next few months, with or without your significant other, their strawberry and peach scone ($10 for 2 scones and a pot of tea) is perfect for the warmer weather. Light, crumbly, and studded with fruit, it’ll satisfy your scone craving but won’t sit in your stomach like a paperweight. It’s tasty enough to eat alone, but as most scones are, it’s better with clotted cream and preserves. MORE »
This was David’s grilled sea bream (€17/$24.62) two days ago at Perissa Tavern in Santorini. It was a bit overcooked, but for a seaside tavern on Perissa Beach, the presentation was amazing. Perissa Tavern seems to be owned by the same people that own Porto Castello next door. If time permits, we may check out their other restaurant. One added bonus of dining at either restaurant is that use of their beach chairs with an umbrella during or after the meal is free (normally €5/$7.24). Perfect for lounging and digesting. MORE »
David and I thought we should eat some fruit to balance all the calorific foods we’ve been eating in Athens. At a fruit stand in Monastiraki Square doing very brisk business, I spied gorgeous, perfectly formed strawberries. David, however, thought I should buy red grapes while a man shopping next to me kept insisting I buy cherries. After much discussion between me, David, and the random dude, I ended up buying half a kilo of strawberries (€1.99/kilo; $2.84) and half a kilo of red grapes (€2.99/kilo; $4.27). The strawberries, while beautiful were a bit tart, but the grapes were juicy and very sweet. Does this mean I should listen to David more often? Probably not. MORE »
