Luxardo Cherry Road at Morgenstern’s – NYC

I’ve been telling everyone so it seemed fitting I tell you guys also. I love Morgenstern’s.

The ice cream at this old-timey ice cream parlor is made Philly-style, without any eggs, but there’s no lack of indulgence or creativity. The Durian Banana ice cream is appropriately funky without any qualms of being so, and there’s even a Fernet Black Walnut flavor, but my favorite is the Luxardo Cherry Road. I’m a sucker for Rocky Road, but Morgenstern’s does it better by folding walnuts, marshmallows, and Luxardo cherries (real candied Maraschino cherries minus the day-glo) into salted, sticky chocolate ice cream. More cherries would be nice, but if you order another scoop or dip ($4 each), problem’s solved. Genius.

we went to Morgansterns a while back.

Very interesting menu, but you don’t find out that they have less than half the flavors available until you get to the counter. Hopefully they are better at keeping flavors in stock by now.

Very $$$ too, Davey’s in East Village was much more enjoyable.
