Brisket at Big Apple Barbecue – NYC
Ever been to the Big Apple Barbecue? In its 12 years, this year was my first. Mostly because I’m too grumpy for lines, but I must say, it wasn’t so bad. Especially when you’re rewarded beer and meat for your patience.
Considering Delaney Barbecue is new on the barbecue scene and located in Brooklyn, the line was 30 minutes strong. Regardless, I waited because 30 minutes isn’t bad if you factor out the commute time to Brooklyn plus the wait time when you get there. As for the offerings, it was beef brisket & sausage. The sausage was good, but the brisket, intensely smoked and tender with a peppery bite, was excellent.
Likewise, the sausage from the Salt Lick was tasty, but it was all about the brisket. Many in my group preferred it to Delaney’s because it was sweeter and saucy, but I liked both. While the brisket at Salt Lick was less dry because it was sauced, it wasn’t as smoked or tender.
A little of both is ideal. Pro-Tip: Next year, go early with friends and split-up for variety and less wait time. As always, the more the merrier, friend-wise and meat-wise.
