Sponge Cake with Pork Floss at Natalie Bakery – NYC
My afternoon snacks are usually sweet, but today it was a little savory and a little sweet. Imagine just the top of a Chinese sponge cake (remember the muffin tops on Seinfeld?) with pork floss and scallions, and that’s basically what I ate. Surprisingly, it was the scallions that made the cake taste more savory than the pork. Also, the scallions did a good job of stinking up my cubicle for a few minutes. All in a good day’s work.
The cakes can be found on the counter in plastic pouches at Natalie Bakery Inc. on Grand Street (previously Egg Custard King Two), and are sold for $1 each.
