@chopin – Chip Shop was definitely greasier, but had more flavor. Perhaps A Salt & Battery is better since you can always add salt; removing grease is difficult.

@Hexatron – I know a month or two ago, that entire corner went out of business (Halal Bakery, Noodles 36, Newsstand w/ Indian in the back, etc.). I think some business bought up the entire block. I used to go to that corner a lot for cheap Chinese and Indian. Have you been recently? I wonder if Chicken House is still there. I’ve been craving fried chicken these days. I think it’s the warmer weather.

There’s also CHICKEN HOUSE on 36th just east of 8th, located deep in the ambiance-free zone.
It has Fish (whiting I think) and american-style fries

@Kenny – I thought it was pretty expensive at A Salt & Battery also, considering the portion. I mean, throw in some chips with it at least.

@wonders – Glad I’m not the only one! I used to be able to tolerate the place when I was in college, but now the scene is just tiring.

I don’t like Coffee Shop either. Last time I was there, my friend and I had to wait 30 minutes for a table at a practically empty place. It irritated me but I didn’t choose the location. To add fuel to fire, the waitress was bitchy.

I’ve only tried Fish & Chips from one spot in NYC. It was from Puck Fair on Lafayette & Houston. It was pretty good but the price was not pretty.

@little one – If you don’t like fish & chips to begin with, I wouldn’t recommend this place. It’s not so great that it’ll blow you away. As for being a bad Canadian, let’s fix that by going snowboarding!
